YLF Deadline Extended: Apply for 2018 Youth Leadership Forum Now January 5th, 2018

Do you know a student with a disability who is a junior or senior in high school between the ages of 16-18 years old? Does that student show leadership in her/his community? If so, have them apply to the 2018 Youth Leadership Forum (YLF). The Deadline to apply has been extended to January  31, 2018.

What is the Youth Leadership Forum (YLF)?
YLF is a five-day summer youth leadership program for students with disabilities. The 2018 YLF will take place on July 15-20 at California State University, Sacramento. There is no program or travel cost for parents to pay. All students’ expenses are sponsored through a public-private partnership.

How are delegates chosen?
Students must complete an application, write an essay and provide letters of recommendations. Students will also be interviewed for a spot in the YLF. All YLF applications must be completed electronically and emailed to [email protected]. This is a competitive process and not all students will be selected.

Students who are selected for a spot in the YLF will be contacted in spring. Parents or guardians will also receive additional detailed YLF information at that time.

What does YLF provide attendees?
The YLF program offers peer mentoring on careers, independent living and offers resources for students to become independent. Students hear from professionals with disabilities in their chosen fields. Finally, students will have fun and meet lifelong friends.

How do students apply?
To apply for the YLF, students should visit our website at: www.dor.ca.gov/ylf.

  1. At the YLF Information Links, select Delegate Info. Page with 2018 YLF Application.

  2. Next, select and complete the 2018 YLF Application.  There is also a link called ‘YLF Instructions’ to assist applicants with completing the application.

Interviews will be conducted with students and our goal is to make final delegate determinations by March/April 2018.
