Applications Are Now Being Accepted - YO! Youth Advisory Council July 14th, 2017

YO! Disabled and Proud connects, organizes and educates youth with disabilities. The statewide program gives youth with disabilities the opportunity to develop or enhance their leadership skills, learn about educational and employment related resources, become self-advocates and take part in taking disability community activities and events.

The YO! YAC is made up of 7 – 9 youth from across California. Members range in age from 16 – 28 and should be familiar with the YO! program, when they apply to join the Youth Advisory Council.  

The YO! YAC is assists with prioritizing YO! Community Organizing Campaigns, overall program goals and provides input and feedback on policies impacting youth with disabilities on a local, statewide and national level.

YO! YAC Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must identify as a youth with a disability between the ages of 16 – 28.

  • Must live in the California.  

  • Willing to participate in quarterly teleconference meetings during evening and weekend hours.

  • Participate in YO! Disabled & Proud events or activities both in-person and virtually.

  • Promote the YO! Disabled & Proud program.

  • Assist in recruiting new members.

  • Participate in YO! community organizing campaigns.

  • Provide peer support to other youth in the YO! Disabled & Proud program.

  • Serve a two year term on the YAC.

  • Ability to participate in teleconference and/or online meetings.

  • YAC members should expect to do between 2 – 6 hours of work per month.

A small stipend is provided on a quarterly basis to council members.  Youth interested in applying should complete the online application on the YO! Disabled & Proud website, The deadline to apply is August 18, 2017.
